All Saints Church
Ravenstone is very proud of its All Saints Church which was originally built in the 11th century and has a Grade 1 listing. The Tower and the South Aisle were built in the 13th century. The South Chapel was added in 17th century to provide a burial chamber for the Finch family who were the village landlords. It houses an important monument to Heneage Finch, the first Earl of Nottingham and Lord Chancellor of England.
The church has many interesting features including a range of old and new stained glass windows some of which are dedicated to former vicars of the parish. The window in the East Chancel was installed in the 1950s and was financed at the time by fund raising in the village. It was designed by John Hayward and it incorporates several images of village buildings along the bottom.
In recent years the building has been updated to include basic kitchen facilities and a toilet which makes it suitable for social as well as religious events.
The graveyard has been closed for many years. A Burial Ground is available in Northend for all Parish residents for burials and interment of ashes. It is administered by the Church Council.
Clergy is led by our Reverend Canon Christa Pumfrey. She is supported by some retired priests and lay readers as she is responsible for eight parishes in total. She may be contacted through the Parish Administrator, Karyn Martynski by email at Office.benefice8@gmail.com or on 07849 980 622
